Guide

A dessert for the hostel, PG or bachelor freezer.

No oven, a shared kitchen, and a freezer compartment you fight your flatmates for. Here's what works, and the one storage mistake to avoid.

Why single-serve frozen makes sense here

In a PG or hostel you rarely have an oven, and anything sweet you buy in a box is gone or stale in two days. A frozen single-serve brownie keeps 3 weeks in a home freezer, takes up little space, and you eat one when you want one. Rest it 3 to 5 minutes, or eat it semi-frozen. No oven or microwave.

The storage catch

Small fridge-top freezers and PG freezers are often warmer than a kitchen freezer, especially in the door and when they're opened all day. Keep frozen in your home freezer, at the back, not in the door. Don’t keep it in the fridge. If a pack has thawed, eat it that day; don't refreeze it. If your freezer can't stay frozen solid, the 3 weeks doesn't apply.
